“Scenting the Future: Innovation, Sustainability, and Global Impact”
ES. As President of FAFAI, what is your overarching vision for the association’s growth and impact over the next five years?
Jaideep Gandhi. To position FAFAI as a globally respected body that champions innovation, quality, and sustainability in the Indian fragrances and flavours industry – while serving as a catalyst for collaboration, policy advocacy, and inclusive growth across the entire value chain. We intent to establish India-specific quality benchmarks in line with other global benchmarks and also enforce them actively in all facets.
ES. How is FAFAI promoting domestic innovation and the “Make in India” / “Vocal for Local” agenda?
Jaideep Gandhi. FAFAI is encouraging R&D investment through partnerships with academic and scientific institutions. We have identified hidden gems of India such as Arunachal Pradesh and Assam and are actively working with Ministry of Development of North Eastern Region (mDoner) to enhance value addition of these states of India. Infact, we are actively working with many other government and private insitutitions to drive growth to the Indian Businesses and Economy.
ES. What steps is FAFAI taking to promote eco-friendly practices, such as reducing VOC emissions and adopting green chemistry?
Jaideep Gandhi. FAFAI (Fragrances and Flavours Association of India) has recognized the urgent need for sustainability and is taking several proactive steps to promote eco-friendly practices within the Indian fragrances and flavours industry. FAFAI regularly conducts technical seminars, webinars, and workshops with experts in green chemistry, encouraging members to transition from conventional synthesis methods to safer, bio-based and biodegradable alternatives. The association curates and shares case studies of companies that have successfully adopted solvent-free technologies, enzymatic processes, and green extraction methods (e.g., supercritical CO₂, cold pressing).
ES. In your view, what is FAFAI’s most significant upcoming initiative or campaign that stakeholders should watch out for?
Jaideep Gandhi. FAFAI’s most significant upcoming initiative is the launch of the ‘Sustainability and Innovation Charter 2025’ – a landmark campaign aimed at transforming the Indian fragrances and flavours industry into a globally competitive, environmentally responsible, and innovation-driven sector.
ES. Finally, what message would you like to share with young entrepreneurs and emerging businesses entering the sector?
