ES. With your deep expertise in staging, automation, and rigging at Maverix Worldwide, how do you balance technical precision with creative storytelling to deliver seamless large-scale experiences?

Riyaz Khambati. At Maverix Worldwide, we thrive on pushing boundaries. Collaboration is key; our teams of experts work closely together to ensure that the creative vision is translated into a technically sound plan. Next is clear communication; we make sure everyone is on the same page, from designers to engineers, to ensure seamless execution. Next is precision planning where we leave no stone unturned, anticipating potential issues and having contingency plans in place. Next is flexibility which is crucial hence we’re always prepared to adapt to changes or unexpected challenges that arise during production. Lastly creative problem-solving where our team’s experience and expertise allow us to find innovative solutions to complex technical problems, ensuring the show goes on. It’s all about finding that sweet spot where art and engineering meet.

ES. In today’s experience-driven events, how do you ensure that advanced technical elements enhance, rather than overshadow, the emotional connection with the audience?

Riyaz Khambati. We start with the story; tech should serve the emotional arc, not the other way around. We anchor everything to the core message and audience experience. Knowing the audience; whether it be an Intimate concert we focus on vibe, Massive festival we focus on immersion. Tech choices hinge on what connects that crowd. Invisible tech is best tech; If the audience notices the tech, it’s probably too much. We hide wires, disguise speakers, make lasers subtle. Emotional beats over eye-candy; A simple LED backdrop won’t beat a well-timed pyrotechnic surprise aligned with music. Focus on moments that land emotionally. Test with real people: Run rehearsals with non-staff audience members. If they’re distracted by tech, dial it back. One show-stopper, not a tech buffet. Most important is to pick one “wow” moment. Everything else supports the vibe, not the resume. The best events don’t make you think about the tech. They make you feel something.
