Doon Book Festival 2026 Set to Transform Dehradun into a Literary Hub

The picturesque Doon Valley is all set to host one of its most significant cultural celebrations as the Doon Book Festival 2026 takes place from April 4 to April 12, 2026, at Parade Ground, Dehradun. The nine-day festival is being organised by the National Book Trust (NBT), India, under the Ministry of Education, in collaboration with the Government of Uttarakhand.

Shri Yuvraj Malik, Director of National Book Trust, India, formally announced the festival during a press conference today and highlighted the scale of the nine-day celebration which will feature over 300 stalls showcasing lakhs of books in various Indian languages and English. Entry for the public has been kept entirely free to encourage reading habits and make literature accessible to everyone, he said.

The festival will be inaugurated on 4 April 2026 at 10:30 AM at Parade Ground, Dehradun by Shri Pushkar Singh Dhami, Hon’ble Chief Minister of Uttarakhand, in the presence of Guest of Honour, distinguished scholar Acharya Balkrishna; Prof. Milind Sudhakar Marathe, Chairman, NBT-India; and Shri Yuvraj Malik, Director, NBT-India, among other dignitaries.

Bringing together readers, authors, thinkers, and artists from across the country, the festival will feature over 300 book stalls showcasing a vast collection of titles across multiple Indian languages and English. With free entry for all visitors, the initiative aims to promote reading culture and make literature accessible to a wider audience.

The festival will be inaugurated on April 4 at 10:30 AM by the Hon’ble Chief Minister of Uttarakhand, Shri Pushkar Singh Dhami, alongside eminent dignitaries from the literary and academic fraternity.

A major highlight will be the Doon Lit Fest, featuring renowned personalities from literature, cinema, and public life, engaging in insightful discussions on diverse themes including leadership, history, and evolving societal narratives.

Further strengthening its commitment to regional literature, the festival will showcase works in Garhwali and Kumaoni languages, including the launch of 13 translated titles and participation from over 50 regional authors.

Beyond books, the festival will offer interactive storytelling sessions, workshops, quizzes, cultural performances, and musical evenings, creating a vibrant, immersive experience for visitors of all age groups.

With its unique blend of literature, culture, and community engagement, the Doon Book Festival 2026 promises to establish Dehradun as a thriving literary destination and a key cultural hub in India.
