Following the successful conclusion of the World Expo 2025 in Osaka, Japan, the Thurgau-based Swiss construction firm NUSSLI achieved significant international acclaim by securing four BIE Official Participant Awards for its pavilion projects. NUSSLI was engaged as the general or whole contractor for five national pavilions-Switzerland, Austria, Uzbekistan, Brazil, and Kuwait-with four of these commissioned projects receiving formal honors from the Bureau International des Expositions (BIE).
The six-month Expo, which operated from April 13 to October 13, 2025, focused on the central theme of ‘Designing Future Society for Our Lives.’ The event hosted 158 participating countries and seven international organizations, attracting over 25 million visitors. An international committee of experts determined the award recipients after comprehensive evaluations conducted in May and October 2025. NUSSLI’s portfolio was recognized across three distinct categories. The Uzbekistan Pavilion secured the firm’s highest honor with Gold for Thematic Development, while the Brazilian Pavilion earned a Silver Prize in the modular category for theme interpretation. Furthermore, the Austrian Pavilion received Bronze for Exhibition Design, and the Swiss Pavilion was awarded Bronze in Architecture & Landscape for its design and construction, specifically noted for using a lightweight membrane framework to minimize environmental impact.
NUSSLI CEO Andy Böckli commented on the achievement, stating, “With the projects in Osaka, we were once again able to show that temporary structures have a lasting impact-technically, architecturally, and emotionally. We will take this experience into the next Expos with great motivation.” The firm’s success at the Osaka Expo reinforces its reputation as an established partner, built over 25 years and more than 54 Expo pavilions worldwide, as NUSSLI now directs its strategic planning toward the Specialized Expo 2027 in Belgrade and the World Expo 2030 in Riyadh.
