According to Shri Swadesh Kumar, Director, Indian Exhibition Services, “Such an exhibition is being organized with the main objective of promoting the growth and development of the salt industry in India and to promote the growth and development of the salt industry during the 3 days of the exhibition under one roof. India is the third largest salt producing country in the first world after China and the United States, with a global annual production of about 230 million tonnes. The country has the lowest per capita production of salt. The consumption is estimated at about 12 kg, which includes edible and industrial salt. The present annual requirement of salt for industrial use in the country is estimated at 80 lakh tonnes. Caustic soda, soda ash, chlorine etc are the major salt-based industries. Apart from this About 20 lakh tonnes of salt are exported every year.

He further said that the private sector plays a major role in salt production with more than 95%, while the public sector contributes around 2-3%. The contribution of the cooperative sector in the total salt production in the country is about 8% while the contribution of the small-scale industry sector is about 40%.
