The Kuala Lumpur Convention Centre’s (the Centre) General Manager, John Burke, has been appointed to the Board of Directors of the International Association of Convention Centres (AIPC) for 2025. This appointment enhances Malaysia’s influence in the global meetings and conventions industry and reinforces the Centre’s leadership in delivering world-class event experiences.
In response to his appointment, John Burke shared, “This role offers a valuable platform to collaborate with global peers in shaping the future of convention centres, while highlighting the strengths of Malaysia and Asia Pacific on the world stage. I look forward to exchanging regional best practices to elevate standards across our venues and further position Kuala Lumpur and the region as leading hubs for international business events.”
The AIPC represents professional convention and exhibition centre managers in over 55 countries and is committed to advancing excellence in venue management through research, education, and global networking. As part of the AIPC Board, John will work alongside leading industry figures such as Julianne Jammers, President of AIPC and Managing Director of the SwissTech Convention Center, and Taubie Motlhabane, Vice President of AIPC and CEO of the Cape Town International Convention Centre. Together, they will shape the strategic direction of the association, recommending policies and initiatives that support members and elevate industry standards.
John’s appointment also aligns with Malaysia’s ambitious business events targets. According to the Malaysia Convention & Exhibition Bureau (MyCEB), the country is aiming to attract 5.9 million delegates and generate an economic impact of RM42.12 billion by 2030. Serving on the AIPC Board provides a strategic platform for contributing to these national goals.
“This is an opportunity to amplify Malaysia’s voice on the global stage,” John added. “By collaborating with AIPC’s international network, we can directly contribute to MyCEB’s targets while elevating Kuala Lumpur’s reputation as Asia’s most dynamic meetings hub.
