The Association of the German Trade Fair Industry (AUMA) has taken a significant step toward climate responsibility by adopting a new emissions measurement guideline based on the Net Zero Carbon Events (NZCE) methodology. With this move, AUMA becomes the first national industry association to align itself with this internationally recognized framework, underscoring its commitment to sustainability and climate action within the events sector.

The NZCE initiative, introduced during the United Nations Climate Change Conference (COP26) in Glasgow, was developed to help the global events industry transition to net-zero carbon emissions. It offers a unified approach to measuring and reporting emissions, as well as a roadmap for reducing them. The framework encourages collaboration among event organizers, venues, service providers, and stakeholders to share best practices and track progress toward environmental goals.

AUMA’s tailored guideline adapts the NZCE methodology specifically for the German trade fair industry, one of the most active and influential in the world. The guideline is designed to ensure consistency and transparency in emissions reporting across all trade fair organizations in Germany. By introducing standardized parameters and data collection methods, it enables fair and comparable measurements across different events and venues.

The primary goal of the guideline is to create a solid foundation for environmental accountability and to facilitate the development of effective carbon reduction strategies. It covers key emission sources such as energy consumption, travel, accommodation, logistics, catering, and waste management. With consistent measurement practices in place, trade fair organizers can identify high-emission areas and implement targeted solutions.

This initiative also aligns with broader European and international climate goals, including the EU Green Deal and the Paris Agreement. AUMA’s proactive approach sets an example for industry associations worldwide, demonstrating that sector-wide collaboration and standardized methodologies are critical in the fight against climate change.

By adopting the NZCE framework, AUMA not only reinforces its leadership role in the global trade fair industry but also contributes to building a more sustainable future for events.
