The Southern Gujarat Chamber of Commerce and Industry (SGCCI) has inaugurated the much-anticipated Yarn Expo 2025 today, August 1, at the Surat International Exhibition and Convention Centre (SIECC), Sarsana. Running till August 3, this seventh edition of the event is witnessing a significant shift in its theme from a traditional focus on yarn to a broader emphasis on garments and value-added textiles. With the textile capital of India aiming to strengthen its foothold in garment manufacturing, this edition is set to redefine Surat’s role in the country’s textile ecosystem.

This year, 85 exhibitors from cities like Ahmedabad, Coimbatore, Mumbai, Ludhiana, Chennai, and Kolkata are showcasing cutting-edge yarn innovations including gold and silver zari, tencel, n-silk, lyocell, zinc linen, hemp, biodegradable, and antimicrobial yarns. These products are targeted at industries like fashion, sportswear, medical textiles, and technical fabrics. For the first time, a dedicated pavilion is also displaying high-performance technical yarn applications, including fire-retardant fabrics, high-tenacity nylon, carbon fibre, polypropylene, and moisture-wicking sports garments.

In a major draw for attendees, fashion shows will be held every three hours throughout the expo, highlighting garments made from innovative yarns and promoting Surat’s capabilities in fashion-forward textile production. SGCCI President Nikhil Madrasi noted that this move aims to support Surat’s positioning as a major garment hub, while Vice President Ashok Jirawala emphasized the strategic intent to boost exports of value-added products from the city.

The expo is expected to attract around 25,000 buyers, with a notable number of international visitors from key textile regions across Asia and Europe. The inauguration was graced by industry stalwarts such as J. Raghunath (Senior VP, Reliance Industries), Satyaki Ghosh (CEO, Fashion Yarn Business, Grasim Industries), Dr. S. N. Modani (VP, Sangam India Ltd), and Durai Palanisamy (Executive Director, Pallava Group). Past SGCCI President Vijay Mevawala highlighted that buyers from Tiruppur, Erode, Ludhiana, Hyderabad, Warangal, and Varanasi have already confirmed their attendance.

As Yarn Expo 2025 unfolds, it not only provides a platform for showcasing yarn innovations but also serves as a testament to Surat’s vision of becoming a complete textile value chain hub, extending from yarn manufacturing to garment production. The event reflects SGCCI’s proactive approach to steering the industry toward high-growth areas like technical textiles, smart fabrics, and export-oriented garmenting signaling a new chapter for Surat in the global textile landscape.
