LEADERSHIP. GROWTH. INNOVATION. VISION.
ES. You have spent over two decades in the exhibition industry. What have been the most defining milestones in your journey, and how has the industry evolved during this period?
Sreekanth Urs. The exhibition industry has transformed tremendously over the past two decades. When I started, exhibitions were primarily viewed as marketing events. Today, they have evolved into complete business ecosystems where companies launch products, generate leads, build partnerships, and expand into new markets.
One of the most defining milestones in my journey has been building GES Worldex India into a trusted exhibition organizer with successful brands across multiple industries. Launching specialized B2B exhibitions such as the Silver Show of India (SSI) and expanding them into multiple cities has been particularly rewarding. Seeing thousands of businesses grow through our platforms is the biggest achievement. The industry has become more professional, technology-driven, and customer-centric. Today, success is measured not just by footfall but by the quality of business opportunities created for exhibitors.
ES. What has been the single biggest challenge in your career, and how did it shape the leader you are today?
Sreekanth Urs. Every entrepreneur faces challenges, but one of the biggest was navigating uncertainty during periods when the industry faced disruptions. The pandemic, in particular, tested the resilience of the entire exhibition sector.
Instead of focusing on limitations, we focused on rebuilding confidence among exhibitors and visitors. We strengthened relationships, invested in innovation, and improved the overall exhibition experience.
This phase reinforced an important leadership lesson: true leadership is not about avoiding challenges—it is about staying calm, making informed decisions, and inspiring confidence even during uncertain times.
ES. GES has successfully organized many exhibitions. What leadership principles have helped you build and sustain this growth?
Sreekanth Urs. Our growth has always been guided by a few core principles.
First, we prioritize long-term relationships over short-term success. Trust is the foundation of every exhibition. Second, we believe in continuous innovation. Every edition must offer greater value than the previous one.
Third, we focus on understanding industry needs rather than simply organizing events. Our exhibitions are designed to solve business challenges and create measurable opportunities. Finally, our team’s commitment and execution have been instrumental. A strong organization is built through collaboration, consistency, and a shared vision.
ES. SSI has expanded across Bengaluru, Mumbai, and Delhi. How has the show’s evolution reflected the changing dynamics of the jewellery industry?
Sreekanth Urs. The Silver Show of India has grown alongside the remarkable growth of India’s silver industry.
Today, silver is no longer viewed only as a traditional product category. It has become a fast-growing segment driven by fashion, investment, gifting, lifestyle products, and exports. As demand expanded, businesses required specialized platforms focused exclusively on silver. SSI fulfilled that need by bringing together manufacturers, wholesalers, retailers, exporters, designers, and buyers under one roof. Its expansion into Bengaluru, Mumbai, and Delhi reflects the growing national importance of the silver industry and the increasing demand for dedicated B2B business platforms.
ES. In recent interviews, you have spoken about the importance of exhibitions as a powerful business development platform. How do you see exhibitions evolving in an increasingly digital world?
Sreekanth Urs. Digital platforms have transformed communication, but they cannot replace face-to-face business interactions. Exhibitions offer something unique—live product demonstrations, personal trust, relationship building, and immediate business discussions. These experiences simply cannot be replicated online. The future is not digital versus physical—it is a combination of both. Digital technology will enhance exhibitions through smarter networking, AI-powered matchmaking, data analytics, and year-round engagement. However, the exhibition itself will remain the most effective platform for building meaningful business relationships.
ES. How is GES leveraging technology, data, and visitor engagement strategies to improve exhibitor outcomes?
Sreekanth Urs. Technology plays an increasingly important role in how we organize exhibitions.
We use digital registration systems, visitor analytics, targeted marketing campaigns, and data-driven communication to attract high-quality buyers. Our focus is on delivering relevant visitors rather than simply increasing visitor numbers. We also continuously improve the visitor experience through better navigation, digital communication, exhibitor visibility, and engagement initiatives. Ultimately, our objective is simple: help exhibitors generate more business and achieve measurable returns on their participation.
ES. India is witnessing unprecedented growth in exhibition infrastructure, including venues such as Yashobhoomi and Jio World Convention Centre. How do you see this impacting the future of the MICE industry?
Sreekanth Urs. India is entering a very exciting phase for the exhibition and MICE industry.
World-class venues such as Yashobhoomi in Delhi and Jio World Convention Centre in Mumbai have significantly elevated India’s ability to host international-standard exhibitions and conventions. Better infrastructure attracts global exhibitors, international buyers, and large-scale business events. It also strengthens India’s position as a preferred destination for trade exhibitions in Asia. As infrastructure continues to improve across the country, I believe India will become one of the world’s fastest-growing exhibition markets.
ES. What is your long-term vision for GES India and the next chapter of India’s exhibition industry?
Sreekanth Urs. Our vision is to build globally respected exhibition brands that create lasting value for industries, businesses, and the economy. We aim to expand our portfolio across key sectors while strengthening existing brands such as the Silver Show of India. Our focus will remain on creating specialized B2B platforms that deliver measurable business outcomes. For India’s exhibition industry, I believe the future is exceptionally promising. As manufacturing grows, exports increase, and businesses seek new markets, exhibitions will play an even greater role in connecting industries, driving innovation, and contributing to India’s economic growth. At GES Worldex India, we are committed to being a trusted partner in that journey and contributing to India’s emergence as a global exhibition destination.
