In a significant boost to Madhya Pradesh’s business events and MICE ecosystem, the Government of Madhya Pradesh has announced plans to develop the state’s largest Convention and Exhibition Centre in Bhopal in collaboration with the India Trade Promotion Organisation (ITPO), the agency behind New Delhi’s landmark Bharat Mandapam.
The upcoming facility will be developed on a 25-acre site in the Satgarhi Industrial Area at Kolar, positioning Bhopal as an emerging destination for conferences, exhibitions, trade fairs, and large-scale business events in central India.
The project will feature a state-of-the-art convention centre, exhibition halls, a large hotel, and supporting infrastructure designed to host national and international events. Once completed, the venue is expected to accommodate between 6,000 and 8,000 delegates, making it the largest convention and exhibition facility in Madhya Pradesh.
Inspired by the Hyderabad International Convention Centre (HICC), the proposed development is expected to be three to four times larger than the 2,000-seat convention centre currently under construction near Minto Hall in Bhopal.
The Government of India is expected to contribute โน50 crore towards the project, while the remaining investment will be undertaken by the Government of Madhya Pradesh. The state government has also earmarked 172 acres in the Satgarhi region for industrial development, with a portion of the land monetisation supporting the project.
Construction is expected to commence after the Global Investors Summit (GIS) 2027, which will once again be hosted in Bhopal.
The announcement follows Madhya Pradesh’s recent Memorandum of Understanding with Spain-based Fira Barcelona International to strengthen the state’s exhibition and convention ecosystem and develop globally competitive MICE infrastructure.
Beyond hosting conferences and exhibitions, the project is expected to boost business tourism, attract international events, generate hospitality investments, and strengthen Bhopal’s position as an emerging business and investment destination in India.
