High Hopes From International Elevator & Escalator Expo

Sessions on revisions in NBC 2016, elevator emergency evacuation and unveiling of Lift Safety Manual to be taken up over three days

Excitement is building up for India’s leading international exhibition showcasing the latest technologies in vertical transportation – IEE Expo which will take place this month from 27 February – 1 March 2017 in Mumbai. Driven by the high-prospects of vertical expansion in Indian metros, the trade fair has already marked a 20% increase in international participation and will be hosting key brands from India and 11 countries.

Market leaders including AVCAM, Avire, CREESTA, Fujitec, Fermator, Gefran, Hitachi, Mas Industries, Montanari, Monteferro, Otis, Schmersal, Sicor, Torin Drive, Wittur are among the top players who have confirmed their presence. Overall, 175 exhibitors from China, Germany, Hong Kong, Japan, India, Italy, Netherlands, Switzerland, Turkey, the UK & the USA will be showcasing the latest advancements in vertical transportation at the three-day fair.

With the recent fire incident in the city having sparked safety concerns in high-rises, the platform will focus revisions in National Building Code of India (NBC) 2016. From mandatory codes to liability for the safety of the structure, NBC 2016 includes a major revamping of the section on elevators and escalators which will be highlighted at a dedicated workshop during the fair.

Besides, the platform will bring together a congregation of builders from Maharashtra Chamber of Housing Industry (CREDAI MCHI) and members from the elevator division of Indian Electrical and Electronics Manufacturers’ Association (IEEMA) for a series of seminar sessions and exclusive conclave that offer engagement opportunities with industry experts, market specialists, and influential brands.

Other highlights include an ‘All India Electrical Inspectors Conclave’ to discuss safety and maintenance of elevators and escalators, panel discussion by Council on Tall Buildings and Urban Habitat and Chief Fire Officers for building planning and elevators for firefighting & emergency evacuation, and unveiling of ‘Lift Safety Manual’ for the industry covering aspects of safety for elevators & escalators the during the fair.

Extending support to this premier platform, Honourable Minister Mr. Chandrashekhar Bawankule, Energy, News & Renewable Energy State Excise Government of Maharashtra shared: “IEE Expo is a platform for the building and vertical transportation industry to meet, share and showcase their innovative solutions and technology with relevant decision makers. Elevators and escalators play an important role in the ever growing skyline of Indian cities. Due to rapid urbanisation, India’s elevator and escalator market is the world’s second largest. With this high demand comes the need for innovations in elevator technology and design for energy efficient to reduce power consumption and improve passenger’s safety and comfort. Now we need to work to run the elevator solely on solar power with the objective to save energy.”

IEE Expo has drawn strong support from Government of Maharashtra as well as key industry bodies such as CREDAI MCHI, Department of Electrical Inspectorate in India and Bureau of Indian Standard who will also be present at the fair for one-on-one industry engagement on innovation and safety aspects. The trade fair will open its doors to the industry on 27 February 2018 at Hall 1 at the Bombay Exhibition Center in Mumbai.
